108 Slides of the Pollokshaws Area
The views are in four sections. The first 81 slides, dating from 1961/2, contain more than three-quarters of the total, and are arranged in an order of progression round Pollokshaws starting at Haggs Road. Of the rest, four show buildings being demolished up to 1964, two are of scenes which survive, and the remainder are post-1964 views of the multi-storey flats going up and slides taken from them.

Many of the historical references in the captions are obtained from POLLOKSHAWS - VILLAGE AND BURGH 1600-1912 by Andrew McCallum (1925), & A BRIEF HISTORY OF POLLOKSHAWS by Jack Gibson 1980 (updated 1999). Information on local industry came from INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY OF GLASGOW by JOHN R. HUME (1974), & the Ordinance Survey large scale maps 1/2500, 1913, and Lanarkshire/Glasgow sheets X. 5. and Renfrewshire sheets X111. 9. 10. 13. 14. Also of interest is Williamson, Riches & Higgs book THE BUILDINGS OF SCOTLAND - GLASGOW, Pollokshaws and Eastwood (p560), Penguin 1990 (there’s a copy in my library).
